How do I get a UM Email Account?
On
the Monday after you register for classes, you can set up your
email account using your Social Security Number and six-digit
PIN. Your PIN is your birthday. Please change your PIN to a password
known only to you. To set up your account go to http://www.oit.umd.edu/new/student.html.
2. Where are the computer labs on campus?
UM
has over 30 computer labs that offer Macintosh, Windows, and UNIX
operating systems. Some labs are open 24 hours a day. For lab

What kind of computer do I need?
Most
computers purchased within the last five years meet UM’s
minimum requirements. See http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/topics/general/minimum_recommendations.
You should also check with your academic department to find out
if there is a preferred computer platform for the major.

You

With
your student Directory ID and password, you can download free
virus protection software from http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/virus/.

you have a laptop with wireless, you can connect to the Internet
