1. Do I need to attend the Orientation Program?
All students must register and attend the Orientation Program. The Transfer Student Orientation Program provides important information for new students.

2. How and when will I register?
You may register for an orientation program at the Orientation Program web site or by calling the Orientation Office at 301-314-8217. One of the program staff members will assist you with this process. Attending the first orientation program available will provide the best selection of course times and offerings .

3. How do I find out about transfer student orientation?
Shortly after you are officially admitted to UM you will receive a booklet called, “Guide to Orientation” in the mail. The booklet covers all of the details regarding Orientation. You can also find out more about Orientation at http://www.orientation.umd.edu.
Students enrolling for the fall semester normally attend Orientation during the summer. New students for the spring semester participate in an Orientation program during December or January just prior to the start of classes.
Registration for summer orientation programs begins in mid-March. To find out the specific registration start date, please call the Orientation Program Office at 301-314-8217.

4. Is there a transfer student orientation program?
Yes, there are Orientation programs that are specifically for transfer students. The dates depend on your academic major and programs. Please contact the Orientation Program Office at 301-314-8217 to find out what dates are available for your orientation program. Dates are also available on line at http://www.orientation.umd.edu.

5. When will I register for classes?
Academic advising and course registration takes place at your orientation program. You will meet with an academic advisor and register for your classes during orientation and find out about UM and major requirements. The Math Placement exam is important for semester planning and registration. To learn about the exam and try a sample test, visit http://www.math.umd.edu/undergraduate/credit/placement.shtml.

6. What if I do not have a major?
If you have not declared a major when you register for your orientation program, you will be advised by the Division of Letters and Sciences. If you register for an orientation program and then later decide to change your major with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions it is very important that you call the Orientation Program Office at 301-314-8217 to check on your orientation program date. The date depends on your declared major.
